Dave Shichman - 2003 DnB Mix by Sheik-mon
#5 in my ‘Changes’ series of mixes is an a look into the past. I started spinning records around 1997, but this was the first online DnB mix I ever put out, the mix is from Summer of 2003 when I was known as Sheik-mon, the tunes are from 1999-2003. The music from that era really excited me, rich textured tunes with movement, melody and intricate syncopations. Jazzy, downtempo, memorable music. I recall recording (and re-recordings) this mix in my dorm room at SUNY Purchase, b urning it on CD and mailing or handing it to Cliff, Christian and Josh, which led to my first bookings at Direct Drive, Camouflage and Recess respectively. Amazing memories. I’m very appreciating of those moments and I know I would not be who I am today without them. This mix fits perfectly with the ‘Changes’ theme, a short burst of a particular style of DnB, this one is 9 tracks in 31 minutes.
